GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE PATIENTS OPERATED FOR
PILES,FISSURE & FISTULA

  1. You have been operated at the sensitive & weight bearing part of the body, so moderate amount of pain is expected to occur. Have complete rest & use pain killer medicines as prescribed.

  2. Small amount of bleeding (Few drops, blood stains or streaking) for few days is normal after anal operations. However if the bleeding is excess or lasts for long time, you need to see your doctor.

  3. Sitting in hot water (Seitz Bath) 2 or 3 times a day will clean the parts, relieve the pain, reduce the swelling & will help in healing of the wound.

  4. The water for the Seitz Bath should be tolerably hot & should be taken in a tub enough big to accommodate the buttocks.

  5. Alternately you can use hot shower or heating pads.

  6. The water should not be very hot & the temperature of the water should be checked before sitting into it, particularly by diabetics.

  7. Nothing should be added to the water like Dettol, Savalon, Soap or Potassium per magnate as it can cause irritation of the skin & wound. Plain hot water is enough.

  8. A gauze piece dipped in antiseptic lotion or cream should be kept on the wound & covered with soft padding.

  9. Constipation should be avoided by using prescribed laxatives.

  10. Call your doctor in case of excessive bleeding or severe pain.

  11.  Avoid travel for 3 weeks after the operation.

  12.  Do not continue medicines & local applications without doctor’s advice.

  13. Avoid spice & pungent food.

  14. Come for regular check ups.

 

 CONTACT THE DOCTOR

  1. If there is excessive pain or severe bleeding post -operatively.

  2. If there is severe constipation.

  3. If there is recurrence of bleeding or discharge after it has stopped after the surgery.

  4. Any other abnormal finding.
